What Do You Do When You Want To Quit?
You have choices.
You can have a pity party for yourself – though it’s not going to help.
You could binge eat – trust me…this one does not help and makes you feel worse because you have the original issues plus the funky feeling, guilt of eating a ton of crap and now you have more to contend with.
You could pray Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. – Philippians 4:6
You could fast Then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying – Luke 2:37
You could fast and pray But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. – Isaiah 40:31
So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way. Acts 13:3
You could throw something, punch something.
You could give up – but is that what you really want to do?
Runners don’t just quit when things don’t go exactly as planned.
They put in a lot of training, ran a lot of miles, ate right, trained properly and did what they had to so they were prepared for their race (be it a 5K, 10K, half or marathon or even ultra)
The same principles apply in life.
We train every day, we do what we have to and if you’ve made it this far why quit now?!
And, I don’t want to hear the easier said than done comment.
Just do it!
If I have to can, then so can you.
Though I will admit to a slight binge and like I said, I feel worse now than I did a couple days ago.
So, let’s refocus and keep going…
Question of the day
What do YOU do to make sure you keep going?

I talk it out. lines of comunication between my parents, my husband etc are always open, discussing, encouraging. I also do a lot of praying!

When I want to quit, I tell myself to let the situation calm down and then reevaluate when I’m not so emotional. No good decisions are made in the height of emotions.

I think of all those people who say I can’t do X, like run a half-marathon, and make sure I do all my training ๐

I make lots of sacrifices. I don’t go out a lot and I don’t have a ton of things I get to do. I have late nights and early mornings and I continue to have friends who lift me up in prayer. Thanks for the scriptures…I am writing them down now.

I give myself ten minutes (sometimes more, depending) to cry or scream…whichever the situation calls for. And then I try to laugh. And generally it works and I’ve recharged at least a bit. ๐
Laura says
Sometimes a day off without guilt helps, and time alone to journal, vent, pray, etc. Then picking up where you left off, not worrying about what’s been done or left undone, but starting fresh again– have a positive mental outlook can really help.

i have a rule about not complaining about things your aren’t will to fix and so quitting is much like that… make a decision and move forward. Sometimes you do need to quit what you are doing, but other times you need to evaluate and pick a solution then keep moving

When I feel overwhelmed I make task lists, believe it or not. Instead of then feeling like I have too many tasks, I feel I have control over them. Other strategy – call a friend, but NOT one who is also needing support and a pick-me-up. I call one who has energy, is doing well that day/ week/ month as she will be able to listen, not engage in your point number one – pity party. Lastly, if the tough times persist, I finally get smart and check for patterns of my behavior that are keeping me stuck. You are so close to coming to the good place Tara! I feel it!
Kierston says
Pause, reflect and keep moving forward ๐
Suzi @ Confessions of a Fitness Instructor says
This is something I really understand, living with Fibromyalgia there are at least 3 days out of every week where I want to curl up and stay in bed instead of exercise. But I can’t, because I made working out my job. I promised myself when I decided to become a fitness instructor (knowing I had this condition) that as long as I could walk (as in no broken bones or severely pulled muscles) and stand (when one has the flu, they can’t stand ๐ ) I would teach. So I do it. I grumble, curse, and sometimes cry all the way to the venue, but when I get there I pull myself together and go do it.
So that was my solution. I knew that for my own health I needed to stay active, and the only way I could be SURE I’d do that was to make it nearly impossible for me to NOT exercise. It’s not the route I’d suggest for everyone (or anyone for that matter) but it works for me. But it’s rough.

I write it down. Songwrite. Workout…or blast someone’s ear off. ๐
