I received an eKO Lite® Mat from Manduka.com to review.
As many of you know, I love yoga…I love items that are eco friendly…combine the two and you’ve got my attention!
The eKO Lite Mat, made of natural tree rubber, is a wonder of eco-conscious innovation and convenience. This natural yoga mat blends innovation and technology for the perfect balance of sustainability and performance.
The eKO Lite Mat is a natural yoga mat made from sustainably harvested tree rubber. Unlike other rubber mats available today, the foaming agents used to create the eKO Lite are non-toxic. What this means is that no toxic chemicals have gone into the manufacturing process to soften rubber; when the eKO Lite mat is disposed of and biodegrades, it will not leave behind a toxic residue. Additionally, instead of using synthetic polyester for reinforcement, we have chosen to use a blend of polyester and natural cotton. According to both customer feedback and published yoga mat reviews, the eKO Lite Mat is a high performance mat that is also good for the environment.
This is a thin mat though and in some poses I wasn’t comfortable since I have hard tile floors, but that’s easily resolved if I use another mat under this one.
While it’s thin, it does have great griping power, unless doing Bikram yoga or if you sweat a lot…then you may experience a little slipping.
Speaking of sweat…
the closed-cell surface of this mat keeps sweat and moisture from seeping into the mat and breeding bacteria so that helps with being sanitary and having better durability.
Overall I was pleased with the eKO lite!
It’s also great for doing plank on so you don’t slip!
(camisole worn here by INKnBURN.com Review coming soon!)
The eKO Lite is also a great mat for those who travel because of how thin it is and light, it makes for easy traveling!
Plus, with Earth Day coming up (April 22nd) this is the ideal time to get greener with your yoga practice (and life in general).
Manduka also offers a wide variety of yoga clothes, props and other mats too.

Sounds like a great one! I might have to put that on the to buy list since I am trying to do the plank a day challenge this month. 🙂

Hmmm I like mine to be a little thicker I think, but I use mine for ab work, not yoga. I bruised my back doing sit ups on a hard floor last week while wearing a heart rate monitor.
On a slightly related note, how do you (or your readers) CLEAN yoga mats in general?
Tara Burner says
Ashley I make my own cleaner…part vinegar, tea tree essential oil.
I have wireless Omron HR monitor so no bruising! lol

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the eKO Lite! I splurged on my Manduka PRO a few months back and I’m so glad I did. Totally worth the investment and it gives me the support that my old mat didn’t.
