Today’s Fitspo Friday feature is Robby a/k/a fatgirlvsworld
She’s inspired me and helped me in more ways than I can get into…
even from keeping me company via twitter one late night while I was sitting in my car waiting for my daughter & friend at a Mac Miller concert! lol
And, because of her I want to get a stand up punching bag again!
Moving on…here’s our interview…
Q: Have you always lived a healthy fit lifestyle?
I haven’t always lived a healthy lifestyle. I am a product of an overeating father and an undereating mother. I grew up without a healthy nutritional role model. My family was also rather sedentary and always within the orbit of a television. After mom died, there was a large infusion of fast food and pre-packaged food in my life. Once I moved away from home to attend university, I was able to start the long process of how I lived around food. I am now smaller as a 30 y/o than i was as a 16 year old. I am also stronger, faster, and more confident than I was back then as well.
Q: What keeps you going, motivated?
I feel like instead of having to push myself to go to work out, or make good food choices, that the person I am meant to be is pulling me forward. Because I can see how happy that person is, I’m less inclined to resist the pull towards my future.
Q: What is your favorite workout?
I love boxing. It’s a mental and physical workout unlike any that I have had. And unlike some other sports, boxing does not come naturally to me. Because I’m struggling, it means that I still have things to learn and room to grow. I like the challenge. Oh, and the guys tend to be hot.
Q: What are some of your goals?
My goals are for consistency in things that I do. In the past whenever I’d try to lose weight or exercise more, I’d go in fits and starts. I’d have one good week and then blow it. Or I’d have one good month and lose focus. My aim is to find a balance in my life and maintain it. That’s what real change looks like.
Q: What are some of your accomplishments or things you’re proud of?
I’m proud that I’ve been able to achieve a certain level of success in my journey that my family has taken note and have asked me to help them. It’s great to have success for myself, but it’s so much better that my family is inspired to get healthy because I have show them it is possible.
Q: What is one random fact we should know about you?
I HATE NEEDLES. Part of the reason I decided not to get back surgery when a few doctors said it was a good choice for me was because I hate needles, didn’t want to go under anesthesia, and hated the idea of being sliced open. Because I’m a big baby, another opportunity was opened up for me: the chance to heal myself. Years later, I’m so glad I didn’t have the surgery.
Q: What words of advice would you like to leave the readers?
Trying to undo a history of bad decisions is much like trying to right a car that has started to swerve/fishtail — don’t try to overcorrect. Turn the wheel and point the tires in the direction you want to go, lay off the gas and brakes, and let the car correct itself. Too many times I see people trying to overhaul their lives. They make too many radical changes that are unsustainable and they give up. They should instead make manageable changes that they are able to consistently maintain. Tiny steps add up to long journeys.
