Are you ruled by the numbers on your monitor, scale, Garmin, Bowflex, etc.?
Yesterday I rode my bike without my bowflex to tell me my heart rate, calories burned, etc.
I didn’t look at the display either, covered it with my ipad and simply rode.
That was the first time I’ve done that in a long time.
I’m normally about the numbers…the heart rate, the calories burned.
When did I last ride just to ride and sweat?
I honestly can’t remember.
Last night felt great, to just ride, had some good laughs watching The Green Hornet, and simply rode and sweat (and sweat I did, a lot).
I wasn’t driven by the numbers.
I had gotten burnt out on the beat the numbers game I was playing on the bike each time, and didn’t make time to ride for a couple weeks.
Riding just to ride was fun though, and I know I still got a good workout…
I, my clothes and the floor were drenched when I was done.
Same with running….
How often do you run just to enjoy the experience?
Or is it all about the training, the numbers, the PR (personal record), the mileage, the time….
I want to start training for the Disney Princess Half Marathon, but know I wont make it to the 2012 one so that means I have over a year til the 2013 one.
I’ll get serious about my running and then probably be more concerned about numbers at that point.
But, I also don’t want to lose the fun in the run either.
Ditto with the scale…
is it really all about the number on the scale?
It shouldn’t be.
The numbers on the scale do not define you as a person.
Nor do they distinguish between fat, muscle, etc.
Yes, I know some scales give you body fat percentage, etc. but many people are just obsessed with the number that first pops up.
That number doesn’t tell you if you’re healthy or not, fit or not.
I’m in process of losing weight, but I’m not totally driven by the number on the scale.
I’m losing more so I can feel better, be in better shape and be content where I am.
If it’s 115 that’s great, if it’s 120 that’s fine too….
wherever I feel the best…not basing it totally on the numbers on the scale.
Question of the day:
What number are you obsessed with?
