Did you know that studies show that the average person has a multitude of negative thoughts running through their head a day.
Sometimes we verbalize this negative self talk without even giving it a second thought.
“I’m pathetic.”
“I’m so stupid.”
“What an idiot I am.”
“I’m hopeless.”
“I suck at this.”
Then there are the deep rooted thoughts that are usually just kept in your own head to taunt and torment you there.
“I’m a failure”
“I’ll never be anything.”
“I’ll never lose weight, I’ll always be fat”
“Nobody likes me.”
“I’ll never achieve my goals.”
“I’m ugly.”
If you keep saying and/or thinking these things, they’ll become your reality.
Words, especially spoken words, are extremely powerful.
Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
~Ephesians 4:29 NLT (and that includes words you say to yourself!)
Ways to overcome negative self talk:
- Make a deliberate effort to speak and think positive thoughts.
- If you catch yourself thinking or saying something negative, catch yourself and turn it into a positive.
- Have an attitude of gratitude. Be grateful for what you do have and what you are opposed to what you don’t have.
- Don’t condemn yourself.
- Acknowledge the improvements and positives in your life.
If you need additional help, consider coaching or hypnosis to help you become more positive and able to ignore the negative self talk.
