Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. ~~ Hebrews 12:1
Are you running the race?
Are you keeping your eye on the finish line and going for the prize?
I used to be in track & cross country waaaaaaaaaaay back in high school.
My dad & I used to run through the woods at a local park in PA. I knew the path and knew when I was approaching the final section where I’d have to pick up pace and try to beat him…it was going down a grade and then back up the other side to finish again on a down grade. I’m not sure I ever did beat him though, but I did know what I had to do to push forward and finish with my best effort.
Life is like that as well….even when we’re “down”, we need to push through that section of the “path” as quickly and efficiently as possible and push for the finish line.
It takes discipline to run a race-and it’s the same with your spiritual “race”.
There will be days you just do not want to drag yourself out of bed to run or you’ll say you don’t have time, it’s too hot, it’s too cold, etc. etc.
You need to be disciplined to spend time reading scripture, spending time with God, fellowshipping with others just like a runner spends time working out, stretching, running, doing lunges, eating properly, hydrating their bodies-we need to do the same on our spiritual run.
The difference between a jogger and a runner is an entry blank. ~George Sheehan
I stopped running years & years ago (pretty much before I moved to FL, and I’ve been here for 25 years!). I just recently started jogging again and with repeated practice I’ll be running full force again. I have a 5K that I’m aiming for and will be turning in my entry form as soon as they make it available.
Will I be able to finish the race–for sure.
Will I be able to place top in my age group–certainly plan on it.
I’ll be practicing, training and preparing for it!
I’m doing the same thing in my spiritual life as well….
making time for The Word, living it, breathing it, knowing it and running that race as well!
Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!

Are you serious about your race in life?
Are you pursuing Him?
Are you following the path to be what you were intended to be?
Or are you just jogging or walking along, just routinely doing the mundane daily activities and not pressing for any goal?
What’s stopping you?
Get that entry blank turned in and run the race!
