As you’ve probably gotten tired of reading via tweets and updates, I’ve had a migraine for over a week now.
I’ve yet to figure out why and at this point I really don’t even care…
learning to tolerate it.
But, here’s a bit about migraines…
Triggers that cause migraines can vary for people.
Some of the factors include certain foods (ie: sugar) — nope not food in my case, weather (severe storms, hurricanes, tornadoes) — nope Rina isn’t coming here, so just normal rain, odors — no funky smells or odors since I’ve been home all the time, change in sleeping habits — nope not that, seeing how I actually got extra sleep thinking lack of sleep might be cause, medications — don’t take any meds at all, stress — hmmmm that might be the winner…to name just some of the most common triggers.
Meanwhile, I did spend some more time on the yoga mat trying to at least alleviate it a bit.
When experiencing a migraine restorative poses in yoga permit the body to rest and ease the mind.
So, knowing that I’m not the only one who deals with migraines I want to share a few yoga poses that are good for migraines.
Legs Up the Wall – Viparita Karani which is a restorative pose.
wearing my Alo tank and Lucy yoga pants
Lie on your back and extend your legs up the wall.
You should be able to relax and have your legs remain upright.
If needed, you can use a small pillow or rolled up blankets under your lower back.
Rest your arms at your sides.
If you want, you can cover your eyes with an eye pillow.
Relax into the pose for up to 10 minutes.
Corpse Pose is another good restorative yoga pose.
note the use of the neck circle from Do or Die Fitness
Lie on your back with your legs extended and your arms relaxed at your sides. If needed, support the lower back and neck with pillows. Cover your eyes with a cool compress or an eye pillow. Relax into the pose for up to 10 minutes.
Preventive poses for BEFORE you have a migraine
Downward facing dog — Adho Mukha Svanasana is a preventive pose.
It has a calming and rejuvenating effect on the body.
However, notice it’s a preventive pose and shouldn’t be done when dealing with severe headaches or migraines.
Child’s Pose — Balasana is also an effective preventive pose.
Calming and relaxing.
Again, should be done prior to a headache, not while you have one.
Question of the day
Do you get migraines or headaches?
What’s your favorite yoga pose?

Migraines really can ruin things for you. I’ve had a lot of regular headaches lately coming from my allergies/sinuses. I honestly didn’t know that yoga could help out. I will certainly remember that in the future. I’ve been meaning to get more in to yoga, this is a good excuse to do so!
