Summer is right around the corner, but you don’t need to freak out about how to get in shape.
Here are some quick, simple tips that will help you slim down for summer.
~Motivation –Find something that motivates you–a picture of a fit person in a bikini (can find a lot of these online too on Tumblr), a new summer outfit, a place you want to travel–whatever…just find something that motivates you.
~Be organized — Plan your meals ahead, have healthy snacks on hand (fruit, veggies). Don’t wait until the last minute to plan meals and end up forgoing healthy choices because of time limitations. Plan ahead!
~Sleep — Yes, you need your sleep. Studies show that if your body doesn’t have ample sleep it can affect your weight loss. Rest and recovery time are important in maintaining energy levels and keeping you from craving things your body doesn’t really need or want.
~Smaller Portions — If you reduce the portions of what you’re eating, this will help you and won’t make you feel deprived. Planning ahead and being organized helps here too. You can pre-plan meals ahead of time, making them smaller than you would if you waited until you were ravenous.
~Skip — Skip dessert (or have just a bite), skip that calorie dense drink from Starbucks, and literally skip! Skipping burns more calories than walking and it’s FUN!
~Eat healthy fats — Healthy fats help your heart. They also can boost your mood (and when you’re in a good mood odds aren’t you’re not going to overeat or just sit around doing nothing), they also help you feel full longer. Healthy fat foods include walnuts, avocados, almond (or any nut) butter, flaxseed (add some to your cereal, smoothie or yogurt).
~Get active — You don’t have to go out and sign up for a half marathon, but you do need to get active.
Take a walk/jog/run in the morning to get your day started…if you can’t do it in the morning, then do it in the evening…but do it!
Walk the dog.
Park your car in a parking spot furthest away from your office or where you’re shopping so you can walk extra.
Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
Get up and move around, stretch if you’re stuck sitting at work all day.
