Q: Have you always lived a healthy fit lifestyle?
I have been active as long as I remember, I grew up dancing (from the age of 2) and enjoyed every style of dancing I could find! I started running about 6 months after college, because I needed a goal to keep myself motivated to stay active. It was REALLY hard for me at the start – I couldn’t even run a quarter mile without stopping. I worked up to a 5K over 2 months and then kept adding the miles until I finished a marathon a year later! Running led to triathlon/duathlon and I’ve been hooked on both ever since!
Q: What keeps you going, motivated?
Running and Multisport (triathlon & duathlon) work for me, because you pay money for a race. Committing your money to something is a great motivation to get your workouts in! The variety of multisport events keeps me interested and the feeling of finishing a race after giving it your all is a great natural high!
Q: What is your favorite workout?
Running is still my favorite – I love the simplicity of putting on your shoes and heading out the door. I’ve been getting more into trail running recently, which I find challenging and I’m determined to get better at it!
Q: What are some of your goals?
I crossed some big goals off my list early this year (first 50K race and 3:55 marathon), so the rest of this year is about having fun and enjoying training. After several shorter running & duathlon races over the next few months, I’m running the Marine Corps Marathon in October – I guess it’s time to shoot for 3:50! Then next year I’ll go for Ironman #2, hopefully in Australia!
Q: What are some of your accomplishments or things you’re proud of?
Crossing the finish line at Ironman Austria was pretty amazing – something that is still incredible to me! Followed by completing my first 50K Ultramarathon in February. I love going long and seeing what this body can accomplish.
Q: What is one random fact we should know about you?
I love Nickelodeon & Disney — I watch more children’s TV & movies than any sane adult with no kids should. And I’m not ashamed. 🙂
Q: What words of advice would you like to leave the readers?
One of my mottos is “You can achieve the impossible, no matter where you start!” and I truly believe it. I would have never thought this “slow runner” (6:45 at Disney Marathon 2003) could run a sub-4:00 marathon and complete an Ironman under 14:00. You can go farther and faster than you think, you just need a good plan and put in the work!

Love the photo of Heather running outdoors. I had not known she was a certified running coach. We interviewed another Running coach on our radio show a few months ago.
