We’re constantly hearing dream big and other quotes insinuating that our dreams have to be these huge giganonoromous (yep that’s a word…at least now it is) aspirations and goals we work for.

Why do I want to be scared?
Shouldn’t I want to be inspired, motivated more so than scared?!
And who became the authority on how big a dream has to be?
What if you just want to…
be content just surviving
enjoy life
be healthy
be happy
travel
What if this is my dream

I mean, I have things I want to accomplish and do but are they big dreams?
Probably not according to the dream big quotes.
Are they big for me…
possibly, possibly not.
Who determines how big is BIG?
I’d like to just live, accomplish what I can (I do have a few bucket lists but they’re not huge dreams just things I want to do (fitness bucket list, places I want to travel), not be constantly stressed over finances just let the professionals from rhinosure.co.uk take care of them, be happy and enjoy life.
Is that a dream or too small & trivial to be considered a dream?
Others dream of the perfect job, a huge house, the ideal mate, accomplishing some garage door repair.
Then there’s me…I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up, I’d love to open my retreat but would also be content living on the beach or just traveling in my VW Vanagon (once I find one), and the ideal mate…well I had him almost 20 years ago and now he’s gone and in Heaven sooooooooooooooo I’m content being alone unless God has someone else out there (though I doubt that) and goals…like I said I have some but they’re not monumental.
So I go through life questioning is this it, or what am I supposed to be doing…
So, that leads to the my original question… what if your dream isn’t big?
Question of the day
Do you have BIG dreams?
Do you think you have to have big dreams?
Harold says
At some point in life our biggest dream is to be comfortable and happy. Like you I don’t have the “big” dreams that others do. I have things that I want do or accomplish, but they are relatively small compared to what the “experts” or others might expect from us.
We all need a certain amount of money to support the lifestyle that we chose to live, but beyond that what is important?
Personally, I am looking more for what I consider the quality of my life and less worry about the rat race. I may not have the newest tech gadgets, running apparel/gear (shoes are a different matter), but at what point do we need more than we already have.
No like you my goals are relatively modest – quality of life and helping others is important to me.
Thank you for making me think this morning :-).

Love this, Tara. This could be me talking. My big dreams are small.
Meredith @ DareYouTo says
Really something to think about. If our dreams aren’t big, we won’t reach our full potential. Reach for the stars!
Tara Burner says
But Meredith, who says what our ‘full potential’ is? and who cares if we ‘reach it’ or if we’re just happy & enjoying life?

I don’t even have a bucket list. I am so horrible at setting goals, let alone dreaming big. I like my life. I like my job. I love my husband. My hopes are focused on my kids–wanting to see them find their place in the world–but at this point I’ve done (almost) all I can except support them as they pursue their own dreams.

I honestly really truly love this. I think we need to be happy with our lives no matter what happens. I know, that I am happy with the simplest of things. Do I have giant scary dreams? YES but I can totally respect dreaming to just be content in day to day life. That is a beautiful thing if you are able to just enjoy life as it unfolds.
Not everyone has that kind of confidence. Yes, I believe its a confidence!

Hi Tara, this is a something that I often think about. I guess when people say dream big they mean something like don’t sell yourself short or don’t settle for less…But you have made some great points, it shouldn’t reach a point where we feel more stressed by what we want to accomplish. After all, life is what we make of it and being content should be our natural state.
