“Even if I don’t reach all my goals, I’ve gone higher than I would have if I hadn’t set any.”
~ Danielle Fotopoulis
Goals are dreams with deadlines.
~Diana Scharf Hunt
Goals should be:
Specific – goals must be specific in their detail. If they’re not then you can lose direction.
Measurable – you should be able to measure your progress in working towards your goal.
Achievable – goals must be achievable within a determined time frame. You need to figure out how you’re going to achieve your goals. Think of all the different stages of accomplishing the goal that you will need to work through.
Timed – goals should have a deadline or time frame to be achieved within. If they don’t you may keep procrastinating and never really work to reach your goal.
How to reach your goals:
- Make sure your goals follow the information above, then write them down.
- Make them easily visible every day so you stay on course. You can either make a list or try making a vision or inspiration board to help you.
- Focus on them, visualize them. (some people do hypnosis to keep them focused and motivated.
- Find an accountability partner who will support you, not someone who will be negative though and steal your dream.
- If you can’t find a supportive friend, then you may want to hire a coach to help you along the way.
- Take steps (even if they’re small ones) to work towards your goals every day, even when you don’t feel like it…keep on going!
- Reward yourself. It’s good to reward yourself when you achieve small milestones on the path to achieving your goals. It helps you stay focused and motivated. (note: this does not mean if your goal was to lose 20 pounds and you lost 10 to go out and gorge yourself…instead, treat yourself to a new outfit or pamper yourself. You don’t want to go backwards in your goals by rewarding yourself.)
With these simple steps and your motivation and drive you can and will achieve your goals!
