Funny how normal conversations can lead to blog posts.
I was in grocery store earlier talking about how even though I left my list in the car I was not going to go back out to get it, to come back in to finish shopping.
Which lead to my remembering Gene Wilder saying something about only being able to go forward.
Of course in middle of the grocery store I couldn’t remember the exact quote, now at home here it is:
Sam Beauregarde: Come on, Violet. We’re getting out of here.
Willy Wonka: Oh, you can’t get out backwards. You’ve got to go forwards to go back, better press on.
Pretty simple words yet profound meaning!
Which actually has very little to do with the content of my phone conversation where this started but it got me thinking about how we should always be moving forward (and by going back out to the car was actually a backwards movement–so there’s where my parallel thinking came in).
Even if we don’t like where we are now, like Sam Beauregarde in Willy Wonka, we have to keep going forward and pressing on.
Tips on how to move forward:
Put the past behind you. Learn from it and move on.
Don’t look at anything as a failure-it’s not a failure if you’ve learned from it and get up and continue moving ahead.
Find something that inspires you.
Make goals, know what you want and what you have to do to obtain it.
Have faith and believe.
If you need help, hire a coach to keep you accountable & motivated.
I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:14 ESV
Question of the day:
What do you do when you don’t want to go on?
How do you motivate yourself to keep moving forward?
