Yes, I know this isn’t my normal type of post but lately I’ve received countless emails that are just chock full of mistakes.
I’ve also seen more posts (via Twitter, Facebook, ads posted on line, etc.) that just cry out unprofessional, clueless, wrong.
I saw this post on Craigslist
Supposedly about a position where you can earn a “6 figure income” and must have a neat appearance but yet the poster is SCREAMING at prospects and while apparently concerned about potential prospects appearances, isn’t concerned about his typos…somehow this does not scream 6 figure income potential to me.
You can click on it to read it full size in new window…
Another pet peeve of mine…
receiving emails soliciting me using these terms:
Dear Blogger (I do have a name and it’s not Blogger Burner)
Dear Sir (ummm ok I admit I like tank tops & cargo shorts but pretty confident I do not resemble a sir)
To Whom It Concerns
Or misspelling my name…(Terra is the most popular way of misspelling it)
Mind you, it would be easy to misspell if it weren’t for the fact that if you’re emailing me you’re sending it to tara@taraburner.com
So, I’m not quite sure how you can be on my site, emailing me and not realize that it’s spelled Tara
Don’t get me started on the fact that for whatever reason so many people don’t grasp the concept of BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) so instead they CC (Carbon Copy) everyone and then all it takes is one person hitting “reply all” and everyone gets a whole email thread going about nonsense that they didn’t want to be part of to begin with…not to mention any privacy is now gone and you just handed everyone all the email addresses of everyone else!
Being added to a Facebook group without asking me first will annoy me and get me to leave your group before I even know what it’s about.
If you think I’ll like your group, then ask me first…
don’t just automatically add me (Not sure what Facebook was thinking when they made this change!)
If you’re sending an email to someone that you want to impress, or are soliciting work from you probably want to make sure all words are spelled correctly (including their name and business name) and that proper grammar is used. It’s one thing if you misspell things or use the wrong words in casual emails to friends but when representing your business to others make sure to pay attention to that…nothing like your vs you’re and there vs their to make a person second guess doing business with you.
Question of the day
What are your pet peeves when it comes to posting, emailing?

I have when I get an email from someone asking to do a free posting then they freak out when I ask for some type of compensation, I mean really!!! Or when you get an email and you have to call the company to get removed from.all.their salicitatioms.

My pet peeve is crappy spelling. I get it that some people are just poor spellers, but that’s what editors (and friends) are for. The 2 I see most on Twitter – there for their & your for you’re. Aaarggh.
