just not many of them are located in South Florida!
But, if you go 4 1/2-5 hours north to St. Augustine, you’ll find lots of them!
We recently went on a mini vacation to St. Augustine, which is such a cool & relaxing vacation spot. It’s full of history, nice shops, great beaches, and polite people.
I always get blown away when we go there and the people driving will stop and let you cross, even when they have the green light and could continue driving. Here in South Florida, one doesn’t even attempt to walk unless they have a suicide wish.
We also witnessed a young couple with a baby who were on the trolley tour with us get off the trolley and walk over to a bench that was one of the trolley stops and pick up a purse/bag that had been left behind. They then took it inside the establishment that the bench was in front of. WOW! Honest people who went out of their way to get do something nice! My daughter and I were shocked!
Here in South Florida, if someone found a purse they’d go through it first to see if they can get anything out of it and if not they’d just toss it back down and if they could well, then they’d take it all and then toss it back down.
Apparently the purse belonged to a little girl who was at the front of the trolley because as we made the next turn she was bawling and the mom asked the trolley driver to stop. They got off and were walking back towards the previous stop when they passed the young couple who then asked if they had lost a purse and the girl then cheered up and she and mom went running down street to previous stop to get the purse!
Amazing!!!!!!
I even experienced polite gesture myself and am still dumbfounded! We went into a little jewelry shop in the historic district. I had thought I had put a bag from previous store in my messenger bag so I wouldn’t have anything to carry. That’s my normal thing, buy something, put it in messenger bag and remain with two hands free to do whatever. Apparently that wasn’t the case this time, when I went to pay for something I must’ve put the other bag on counter as well without knowing. About 4 hours later it occurs to us we’re missing a bag…hmmmmmm think think think where would it be. Ohhhhhhhhh I know, but I bet someone picked it up and took it. Daughter says lets go see. So, we walk back to the last store and sure enough they did find a little bag and kept it waiting for us!!!! C’mon if that’d been South Florida the person who found it would’ve kept the jewelry for themselves! But, in St. Augustine they actually turned it in to the shop owner!
So, I guess that’s why South Florida is rated the #1 road rage area, worst intersections and a slew of other not so nice things.
If you want to enjoy mellow traffic conditions, nice thoughtful people and some history and great beaches….go to St. Augustine.

I live just 30 minutes northwest of St. Augustine and I must agree with you. St Augustine has many historical sites and the population is generally very nice.
