Whether you want to admit we’re facing difficult economic times or not, I’d have to say Muvico Theaters in Davie, FL must not be feeling the effects of the economy.
If, they were…then perhaps they would understand their new policy is asinine at best.
This afternoon, yes a school afternoon…I decide to take daughter & her friend to movies. Hey, it IS the best time to go because there’s nobody there on a school day right after school so you can actually enjoy your movie in peace.
Or, so I thought. We arrived at the theater 50 mins before show time. No problem, girls needed to make a potty stop and grab some garbage food and possibly blow a few minutes in the arcade on Dance Revolution.
We get to the dude who rips the tickets, and he firmly tells us we can NOT go in the theater. Excuse me??! So, I ask the woman who’s at the “information booth” and she says no way can we go in, we’re there too early. WHAT????
Now, I’m getting annoyed…not to mention 3 of us are close to doing the peepee dance in the lobby there. She refuses entry but says we can use the rest room one at time…NO WAY am I sending daughter alone, nor her friend and then leaving them alone for me to go. Is this information person insane?
So, I demand a manager. He quickly arrives and explains the new policy is in effect to “control the crowd”.
I laughed and said “Excuse me, but WHAT crowd? There are 24 movies playing and I see the 3 of us and maybe 4 other people.”
His response, “It’s for the crowd control, we need to control the crowd.”
Me: “Oh ok, then how about giving me my $20 back for the tickets, and you lose that along with the other $20+ I’d spend on lousy food & drinks, not to mention at least the $10 I’d blow on Dance Revolution in the arcade. Are you guys so financially sound that you don’t want my or anyone else’s money?”
Him: stopped to think for a few seconds then allowed us in.
Is it that Muvico doesn’t know that if people have money and want to SPEND IT, that they should LET THEM? Everywhere in the news you hear about people not spending on non essentials, how people are being more conservative with their money and here Muvico is turning away (or at least trying to) money that they could have in their pockets.
I mean, $5.75 for nachos, $4.00 per Icee and 4 tokens for $1 and it takes $2 to even get Dance Revolution going….c’mon seriously, do they not realize how quickly they can take my or other people’s money IF they let us in when we want. Instead of their new idiotic policy which has us buy tickets, then be told we can’t enter the building until 30 mins before the movie starts. In doing that, all that enables us to do is head straight for our seats and bypass the money wasters like the arcade and overpriced junk food.
Guess they’re not feeling the effects of the economy.
Perhaps I’ll start waiting for movies to come out on DVD, and hook up the PS2 version of Dance Revolution and save my money since Muvico obviously doesn’t understand how to turn a profit and why should I assist them in accomplishing what they obviously don’t understand as the goal in running a business…making money.

I went to the movies with my husband, two 4 year olds, and one 2 year old on Friday, in my small town, and it cost us $50 for tickets and food. I thought of the profit they can make on food there! My 2 year old did not even require a ticket and we only got popcorn and 2 drinks (I brought my own juice in for the kids!). I definitely will reconsider a trip to the movies again- which many people are, so you might expect some decent service!
