You might just do that…
die that is..or get trampled and injured.
This happened this morning apparently:
Worker dies at Long Island Walmart
This isn’t the first time someone has lost their life on Black Friday at Walmart.
I just don’t get it.
Ok, first off it’s Walmart for crying out loud. Why does anyone want to go there and get crap made in China anyhow?
But, ok fine…to each his/her own, you want to shop there…that’s your business.
But do you want to shop there at risk of life or injury? Is it worth it? I mean can you imagine how the family of the person who got killed there will be affected. He was probably just trying to make a living and it cost him his life. That’ll affect his family and loved ones, their lives have been permanently and forever changed all because a rampage of idiotic people were in a rush to get some dollar store crap to give as gifts to their loved ones. I just do not grasp this!
Those who know me, know I boycott Walmart and hate shopping anywhere on any given day…and refuse to come out on Black Friday.
When did materialism become so important that it’s worth killing for? I mean, really that’s what the people did who trampled the worker and the others. They killed and injured and changed people’s lives today all in the pursuit of cheap crap.
What happened to holiday joy, cheer, gratitude, courtesy, kindness?
The holidays should be full of that…not death, injury, loss, selfishness, greed, materialism.
I’m not that old (ok, so I’m pushing 41, that’s still not old). But sorry, I just don’t get it. Nothing is worth what took place and sadly seems to take place yearly and especially at Walmart.
It’s a sad sad day.
On a side note, my friend Laurie Ayers had posted a blog about Shame on you Walmart, you may want to read that as well.
Laurie Ayers says
I too boycott Walmart. I wish more could look past the cheap prices and realize at what COST they’re getting cheap prices. Insanity!
Tara Burner says
People just do not get it…
wish more would watch http://www.storyofstuff.com as well then it may open their eyes just a bit.
one can hope anyhow.
Sure hope they got the idiot stampede participants on video so they can slap them with a murder charge. Lives lost so they can buy cheap crap ๐

I just can’t believe this story. It is encouraging me to continue to try to get my family to downplay the $$$$ part of Christmas and concentrate on celebrating friends and family not how much loot you get. My prayers go out to the family and friends of that young man.
Norbert Davis says
The death of the employee is a real tragedy and the lack of security by Wal Mart is mostly to blame, however the shoppers who stormed the store are all guilty of this death. I believe that I will no longer participating in Black Friday store purchases but rather do it on-line.
Now I have read numerous news reports and have not heard about a miscarriage. I do know that a pregnant woman was hospitalized for observation only at this point. Where did you get the miscarriage information?
Tara Burner says
Norbert Davis, the information about a woman miscarrying is in the article referenced in the original post.
There are a lot of factors that are to blame and mostly it’s RUDE PEOPLE, GREEDY PEOPLE, SELFISH PEOPLE who have their own ‘agenda’ and are on a ‘mission’ to get what cheapass crap they want from Walmart, no matter the cost..including life, injury to others.
Security should not even have to be a factor!
What about common sense, courtesy and the real reason for the holidays…it’s not supposed to be about rampaging people and stomping over them to get some piece of crap made in China.
Chris says
I heard about this. It is such a shame. Getting a “deal” is not worth murder. I have never participated on “great deals” on this day and I never will.
come on people, get a life!
Warren Whitlock says
While the situation where this happens was set up by WalMart, it is just an unfortunate accident for them.
The greed that caused these people to show up and storm the store is to blame. No one was forced to be there.
Tara Burner says
EXACTLY Warren!
Nobody hog tied them and made them go to Walmart or anywhere else for that matter, except the dude who was working who got killed, he kinda “had” to be there. But his death is on the hands (feet) of the greedy people who stampeded the store to get their nonsense. You could not pay me to go out shopping with all the lunatics. I don’t even like to shop on a ‘normal’ day, and surely won’t catch me out today.
Chris says
It’s sad that people are blaming the store for this, as if they don’t care if one of their employees gets killed on the job.
As for cheap stuff from China, all the stores are full of it, not just Walmart.
Tara Burner says
I’m not blaming Walmart for the death..I blame the obnoxious selfish greedy people who trampled the man.
And yes, most big stores are full of china made crap, that’s why I opt to shop minimally and items that are fair trade, green, hand made rather than big corporations. It’s not always avoidable but can do what we can to not shop and buy from other places. But, besides the whole china made aspect, Walmart has sooooo many other issues that I’d not step foot in one or give them my money that’s for sure.
Julie A. says
WOW!! I cannot believe that happened. How ridiculous that people just don’t even care. I could seriously go off about this, but I probably shouldn’t, but I totally agree with what you wrote above. Glad to know that you and I are on the same page Tara:) Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving.
