Measure not men by Sundays, without regarding what they do all the week after.
— Thomas Fuller
Lately it seems more people are speaking Christianese.
The quote above sums it up….while some people can put on their “Sunday best” in dress and attitudes, we need to consider how they act the rest of the week as well.
People, be real…be genuine…be grateful…be helpful…be loving…
Speak to people in plain English so they can relate…you may very well have a wonderful message to share or advice to help them but if you come off using Christianese and being boastful, arrogant, self righteous the message will get lost and instead of helping that person, you’re more likely to have them run from you and any other Christian who comes their way. Be a loving example!
Compliments of UrbanDictionary.com here are a few definitions for Christianese:
Christianese is the language spoken by Christians. It makes no sense to anyone unfamiliar with biblical texts, but earns you major points in the eyes of other Christians, because it means your words are holy.
Words used by Christians that the unsaved masses are unlikely to understand. Christian buzzwords.
“Father God, you are omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. Thank you for saving me by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, the Savior of mankind”
would be a prayer overdosing on Christianese
